Is Qigong For Me?

…that´s exactly the question I asked myself almost 20…that time in the past I could not find the answer, BUT I thought I give this ancient method a try. Today, almost twenty years later, I would answer the question with a honest YES, though I also would confess that still I am learning and trying …

For me Qigong is not just the movement therapie as part of the Traditional Chinese Medicine, but a wonderful, mental journey into oneself. Yes, that sounds quite philosophic, but its exactly what happens, if one decide to go on this exciting-journey. You learn to know your Self, better and better and on a much deeper level than you might have expected. Each practice of Qigong offers new perspectives, new facets, new views or outlooks and experiences that make me still jump excited like a little kid.

What it need to go on this journey? Not much! Because its all about YOU, what you need IS you, your decision to travel on this internal road, a good teacher and time. There is no need of special equipment or gear, just come as you are. (no, not naked! :-) ) Take on loose fitting, comfortable closes and a pair of shoes that don´t have a too big sole. Then investigate where and when a Qigong-Class will take place near you, make an appointment and then show up and take the first stage of your journey.

Stay open minded and, that is my only advice for you, try to listen to your inside straight from the beginning, because its THERE, where the magic happens! Try to FEEL more than to think and SENSE what the smooth movements effectuate within you.

How do you know wether or not the Qigong-practice was a good one? Thats easy! If after the Qigong you feel better, more energetic, vibrant and alive then before the practice, it WAS good Qigong you practiced. If you don´t feel like that, …

Oh, one more thing before I leave for today, to put things in the right perspective straight from the start, Qigong is an internal art and the “Qi”, which translates as energy, breath, smoke, steam and a lot more, is the major concept of the whole Traditional Chinese Medicine. Its only mission is to keep the “Qi” or lifeenergy running and circulating free on the Meridians or channels in the body. Because from TCM perspective a human being is in good health, when the Qi is circulating freely on the Meridians. If its not, because there are blockages, congestions or passage problems, health issues, illness and medical conditions appear. Then the methods of the TCM try to clear the passages and get the Qi running free on the channels again, so the body will start to repair and heal itself. From this philosophic perspective Qigong is one form of “energy-work”. So Qigong is NOT the smooth movements… its NOT the breathing… its what is NOT seen from the outside, the movements of the Qi within the meridians. So look out for a teacher that teaches this important part of the method as well as the movements.

…And now, enjoy your first trip!

A drop of clear water, resting on a slim green leave.
